The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The ICAR has its headquarters at New Delhi.
The Council is the apex body for coordinating, guiding and managing research, education and extension in agriculture including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in the entire country. With over 90 ICAR institutes ,45 agricultural universities and 561 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK), i.e.
Farm Science Centres spread across the country this is one of the largest national agricultural systems in the world

Welcome to KVK Sonitpur

Krishi Vigyan Kendras, the farm science centres, are innovative institutions for making science more accessible to farming community. Agricultural technologies generated by the ICAR institutions, SAUs and other renowned organizations have not yet reached the end users, i.e. the farmers. A wide gap exists between the available technologies and their adoptions. It is also realized that farmers have their own reasons of adoption, non-adoption, partial adoption and/or rejection of technologies recommended for their use. Therefore, we at 'Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur' are thriving to introduce a new culture of making agricultural science more accessible to people.
