Agro Climatic Zone ( based on soil and topology)

North Bank Plain Zone ( NBPZ)

Characteristics:

The zone comprise of darrang, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts beside Sonitpur. The Zone is characterised by recent and old alluvium soil with sandy to loamy and clay texture and slightly to moderate acidic soil reaction with low CEC. The annual rainfall ranges between 1000 to 2325 mm and relative humidity between 50 to 80 %. The temperature ranges form 5 to 37 degree celsius. The moisture regime in the zone is udic and soil are imperfectly drained to well drained.

Major Agro - Ecological Situation

1: Medium land with medium rainfall (ML-MR)
Characteristics: Flat topology with 1 to 2 % slope, mean altitude 105m above sea level. Inceptisol of medium deep to deep soil with sandy loam to silty clay texture. Acidic reaction (pH 5.0 to 6.1) . Fairly drained. Rice rapeseed, vegetables, pulses, jute are the main crops grown.

2: Medium land with high rainfall (ML-HR)
Characteristics: Flat topology with less than 2 % slope, mean altitude 104 to 115m above sea level. Inceptisol of medium deep to deep soil with sandy loam to silty clay texture. Acidic reaction (pH 4.9 to 5.8) . Fairly drained. Rice sesame, pea, potato wheat are grown.

3: Low land with Lower elevation(LL-LE)
Characteristics: Flat low lan in old flood pain, away from deeply submerged active flood plain, altitude 80 - 100 m above sea level. Inceptisol of medium deep to deep soil with sandy loam to silty clay texture. Acidic reaction (pH 5.8 to 6.5) . impeded drainage. Rice, rapeseed, wheat, jute are grown.

3: Deep water situation with Lower elevation(DW-LE)
Basin type topogy at lower topo-sequence of the older alluvial flood plain, away from the recent reverine flooding belt. Also includes natural swamps and marshes. Altitude 95 m above sea level.Inceptisol and entisols of medium deep to deep soil with sandy loam , clay loam and clay texture. Acidic reaction (pH 5.4 to 6.2) . lack of drainage.
