The Biswanath College of Agriculture (BNCA) was functionally started on 2nd February, 1988. The college was established to widen the institutional base of agricultural education in the state. Besides the agriculture stream, a forestry programme For overall development of agriculture and its allied fields in the state of Assam in general and the entire north bank valley of the state in particular, the Govt. of Assam during eighties felt the need For overall development of agriculture and its allied fields in the state of Assam in general and the entire north bank valley of the state in particular, the Govt. of Assam during eighties felt the need for setting up the second constituent college of the Faculty of Agriculture, AAU. Agriculturally developed Biswanath Chariali of Sonitpur district was selected for the purpose and the Biswanath College of Agriculture (BNCA) was functionally started on 2nd February, 1988.The college was established to widen the institutional base of agricultural education in the state. Besides the agriculture stream, a forestry programme was also initially introduced in the college with the objective of generating manpower leading to graduation in forestry. As such, 25 students ( 20 in agriculture and 5 in forestry programme) were enrolled annually in the first two batches. Subsequently, however, the programme on forestry was decided to be kept in abeyance in view of the limited employment opportunity in the forestry sector in the region. The students enrolled in the forestry programme were, therefore, merged with the agriculture faculty thereby increasing the number of enrollment in the agricultural stream to 30.
Biswanath Chariali is the sub divisional headquarter of Biswanath subdivision under Sonitpur district of Assam and is situated at a distance of about 74 km from the historic city of Tezpur and is very well connected by busses and other vehicles from Tezpur ,Guwahati ,Jorhat and almost all major towns and cities of Assam.The nearest airport is at Tezpur. Biswanath Chariali can itself boast of having a number of historical temples and places. The scenic beauty of Biswanath Ghat situated at a distance of about 7 km from the college and at the bank of mighty river Brahmaputra enthralls everyone.
To develop an outstanding undergraduate programme in Agriculture.
To carry out research and extension activities with relevance to the state in general and the entire north bank of the state in particular.
To serve as a full fledged educational institute of the region for generating skilled manpower in agricultural sector.

MISSION OR VISION:
To strengthen the college into a full fledged institution for preparing technically skilled graduates in agriculture with competency for taking up productive employment both in the public and private sector including the self-employment ventures.
Introduction of non-degree programme in the form of diploma and certificate courses in commercial agriculture and agro-based vocational courses in some selected areas like commercial horticulture, floriculture, fruit processing and value addition, cash generating plantation crops, seed production technology, nursery practices, bio-agriculture and integrated farming practices involving crops, livestock, poultry, fishery etc.

Departments of the College
The college is running only the UG programme leading to B.Sc (Agri) degree with duration of 8 semesters (minimum 4years) including one semester for Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme(RAWEP).The UG Programme includes various courses offered in the following 15 disciplines with minimum requirement of 162 credit hours.
Student Counseling and Placement
The Deputy Director of Students’ Welfare (DDSW) assigns each undergr- aduate student an adviser at the time of admission of the student. The adviser maintains a personal record in respect of each student’s academic progress, deficiencies in studies as well as co-curricular and extra curricular activities.
