The KVK was started as remendated KVK during 2000 under the establishment of
Regional Agricultural Research Station, AAU, Shillongani covering Nagaon and Morigaon
district of Central Brahmaputra Valley Zone as operational area.
Later it was declared
as full flagged KVK in 2004 for Nagaon district. The KVK is located at Shillongani
within the RARS Campus at a distance of 5 Km from Nagaon town on the way to Bordowa.
Nagaon is the largest district of Assam and located at the center of the State
which facilitates as traffic corridor to the district of upper and northern Assam, further extending its way to other NE States of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
The major spoken language of the district is Assamese. Total population of the district is 23, 14,629 (2001 Census) where 88% of the people live in rural areas.
The district Nagaon is well connected by road and rail from all the important places of Assam. The National
Highways NH 36 and NH 37 are passing through the district. The district headquarter Nagaon town is 123 km away from the state capital Guwahati, 30 km from Tezpur and 180 km from Jorhat. The head quarter of the establishment of KVK is located at Shillongani about 5 km from ASTC bus stand and 4 km from Haiborgaon Rail Station (Nagaon). Taxi, auto-rickshaw etc. can be availed to reach the KVK, which is on the way to Bordowa.

To develop KVK, Nagaon by action as a nodal centre of excellence growing with continuous extension and farmers centric services for socio economic upliftment.
The KVK is functioning as per the guidelines provided by ICAR with specific mandates. The main activities are:
