The story of the College of Agriculture is deeply intertwined with the history of modern Assam and Northeast India. Founded at Borbheta, Jorhat, the institution initially operated under the name Assam Agricultural College inside an abandoned military camp with an inaugural batch of just 30 passionate students.
On April 1, 1969, it became the founding constituent college of the newly formed Assam Agricultural University (AAU). Today, it stands re-accredited with Grade 'A+' by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
