1. Involvement in Institute building
During the working periods in KVKs I was actively associated with the different meetings, workshops and played different roles there.. Further, I feel proud of to be closely associated with the establishing two KVKs, the KVK, Dibrugarh as well as the KVK, Sivasagar.
A. Contribution to build, KVK, Dibrugarh : In the year 2008, I was working in the KVK, Sivasagar as Subject Matter Specialist. On 01-04-08 I was transferred to KVK, Dibrugarh, to help the Progromme Coordinator, Dr. D. K. Bordoloi, who suffered from serious health problems due to which the development works were hampered. (Later on, he expired on 07-07-08). During that period, the local people were reluctant to allow us to start functioning the KVK for at Romai. Their demand was to appoint the local people. I was given the full responsibility to start working from a rented house near the permanent site. By taking the advice from the then The Director of Extension Education, Dr. B.C. Bhowmick, Sir, I communicated almost all the influential persons in the locality and apprised them about the role and responsibility of KVK for upliftment of farming community. Awareness programme was also organized where, the DEE, Dr. Bhowmick Sir, Ex-DEE, Dr. Shah Zamal Sir, and Sr. Extension Specialist, Dr. M. P. Barthakur Sir attended and apprised and convinced the local audience. Then only the local people allowed us to start temporary Office at Ghoramara. With tremendous support from the DEE, the KVK became popular within a very short period of time. FLDs, OFTs, training programme and, Farmer–Scientist Interaction etc were organized alone in that area Later on, the local people were so involved with the KVK activities that, they even looked after the new constructions as well as developmental works including land disputes. On 22-11-08 I was again transferred back to KVK, Sivasagar and thus experienced the great satisfaction over starting of KVK, Dibrugarh.
B. Contribution to build KVK, Sivasagar : During the period of my SMS in the KVK, Sivasagar the progress of infrastructure development was very slow due to its difficult location. During 2009, I was given the responsibility to set up the KVK at permanent site, Rohdoi by the then Hon’rable DEE, Dr. B. C. Bhowmick Sir. We have struggled a lot to create the facilities required to run an office from the most remote site, Rohdoi. But with the tremendous support from the honourable Vice Chancellor Sir, Dr. KM. Bujarbaruah we could solved so many problems one by one and now the KVK is one of the good KVKs of Assam.
2. Involvement in Participatory Innovation :
Assamese Poka Tel is known in the Assamese society since time immemorial. The extraction process was laborious and farmer stopped the practice. With the farmers participation at KVK adopted village Gopalpur, we developed a small tool to reduce the labour intensiveness due to which the ITK became popular in the Village Gopalpur.
A simple innovation was made during 2008 to develop a technique to prepare ultra-thin Til pitha so that, everyone can prepare it. The process involved a suitable sieve through which powdered bora rice spread in “tawa” and rolled with the help of a stick. After the innovation a group of women were trained and the innovation became popular. The SHG groups from the Bengmuria Konwargaon adopted the technique and starting business with indigenous snacks like til pitha ghila pith hurum, variety products of Bora rice. Their products are so good, that their product now marketed at different districts.
3. Involvement in performing mandated activities
During the period of working in the KVKs , though I was moving around as head, I have conducted the mandated activities like OFTs, FLDs, training to practicing farmers and training to Extension Functionaries I could build good relationship amongst the different stake holders in the districts
4. About Publication of Research paper :
Eleven research Papers,2 books and 15 nos. of bulletins have been published.
5. About Teaching :
I got the opportunity to teach PG students on the course PP 504 (Introductory Virology) under the Course Leader of Dr A.K. Saikia, Professor Deptt. of Plant Pathology during the year 2006-07 and 2007-08 and gathered rare teaching experiences in spite of serving in the outstations like KVK Sivasagar.
At present also I am associated with teaching to the PG students and till now guided 3 Master Degree students on Virology
6. Involvement in Collaboration
Apart from normal duties I was also associated in collaborative works like preparation of Strategic Research & Extension Plan (SREP) and Comprehensive District Action Plan (C-DAP) of Sivasagar district and actively associated starting from data collection to publication for which District Agricultural Officer, Sivasagar acknowledged my association.
8. Technology dissemination through Radio
I tried to use the Radio as the means of technology dissemination and broadcasted different messages to masses of farming community within a short period of time. Altogether 20 different topics on different plant pathological issues have been broadcasted
10. Contribution through Invited speaker:
I was invited to deliver special lectures in different forums like National Seed Project, AAU; DAO, Sivasagar, different NGOs, BABARD, Different colleges etc.
Initiation of digital technology dissemination
