Achivements
  • Credited with first report on isolation of Salmonella paratyphi A from a pork sample which is known as a human -host-adapted strain responsible for enteric fever in man
  • Developed a novel formalized Salmonella Toxoid vaccine against avian salmonllosis from toxins of a stain of Salmonella Enterica serovar Weltevreden (BM/1643) and evaluated for the efficacy against homologous and heterologous challenges in poultry.
  • Reported on the prevalence of outer protein E (sopE) gene and its phenotypic expression among three serovars of Salmonella viz., Enteritidis, Gallinarum and Virchow isolated from man and animals in India. Also plasmid profiling, phage typing and antibiogram of field Salmonella Enteritidis isolated from animal & birds was done.
  • Purified and characterised Salmonella Typhimurium enterotoxin (Stn) and produced highly immunogenic purified protein.
  • On molecular characterization identified capsular type A and D possessing ompH , ptfA and fimA genes in Pasteurella multocida isolated from chicken
  • The distribution of Clostridium perfringens Type A, B and C in isolates collected from different sources of animals and birds including human and a close relationship between them was established.
  • Discharged duties as the Co- Principal Investigator in an AICRP on” Animal Disease Monitoring & Surveillance” ,DBT Net Work project on Brucellosis, All India Net Work project on Haemorrhagic septicaemia and ICAR-Out Reached Project on Zoonotic Diseases. . Acted as Co-Principal Investigator in two collaborative inter-institutional research projects with ICAR, National research Center on Yak, Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh
  • Evaluated Cell Mediated Immune response of Swamp Buffalo calves to vaccination with Brucella abortus strain-19 vaccine.
  • Prepared e-learning modules on the subject Veterinary Microbiology for undergraduate course and uploaded the Bacteriology part in the internet.
  • Assigned with additional task of conducting practical classes and examination of Post Graduate students of IGNOU and also assisted in research works of Post Doctorate scholars of other University as an when required.
  • Guided MVSc, MSc (DFSM) and PhD scholars as major adviser as well as students from other departments of the College of Veterinary Science as minor adviser
  • Acted as an external examiner and paper setter for postgraduate and undergraduate courses of College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Tripura University, Agartala and Ranchi Veterinary College, Birsa Agricultural University , Kanke, Jharkhand.
  • Attended 15 Refresher course/Research methodology course/Summer institute/Winter school/ Training programme and 24 International , Global and National Seminars/ Conference . Presented 18 numbers of research papers in the conference/seminar/symposium.
  • Published 14 leaflets, 2 booklets and 3 popular articles for the farmers at Livestock Research Station , AAU,Mondira, Hekra during 2000 to 2007.
    Organised 46 animal treatment, vaccination cum awareness camp. and acted as resource person in 3 training courses . Completed the Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agriculture Service Project (World Bank Project) on “Surveillance and occurrence of infectious and parasitic diseases of livestock in lower Brahmaputra valley zone of Assam” as Principal Investigator.
  • Acted as a Guest Lecturer in the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER) , Guwahati with effect from 2009.
  • Acting as a Honorary Member of Sri Sankardeva Netralaya Institutional Academic & Research Committee (SSNIARC)with effect from 2019.
