Extension and Communication Management
The department of Extension Education and Communication Management, Faculty of Community Science was established in 1973 with undergraduate degree programme. The Master Degree Programme was introduced after declaration of this department as full-fledged department in the year 1998. Further the Ph.D degree Programme has been started in the year 2010. It is housed under the complex of Directorate of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.
It has been playing a pioneer role in the growth and development of extension and communication management with specific reference to education, training and research in extension education.
The department has successfully completed three externally funded research projects namely NATP(CGP) funded by ICAR, one Network project funded by DRWA, Bhubeneswar, and one adhoc project funded by NTRF , Kolkata. Besides two projects under AICRP-Home Science also has been successfully completed. One logistic model developed under Network project was highlighted at national level and popularized among the extension professionals. . Presently the Project “AICRP-Home Science” and the project “Rural tourism for sustainable livelihood security” are going on in the department.
Six prestigious awards namely “Young Scientist award” from Indian Society of Extension in 1998 and “Swami Sahajanand Saraswati Extension Scientist/Worker award” from ICAR, New Delhi in 2001, The outstanding participant awards of the summer school at BCKV, West Bengal in 2016, Young Professional Awards received in the National Conference on “ Increasing farmers income, prosperity and food security in India” 2021, Young Scientist Award, 2021 by “Vigyan Barta”, Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022 were conferred to the faculties of this department. Further the faculty member received “Andre Mayer Research Fellowship Award” from FAO for conducting research on “Women in Agriculture”.

· To impart adequate knowledge and skill to the students to be competitive professional to meet the needs of the society.
· To programme research activities focusing need based relevancy in the society.
· To establish a permanent counseling centre for the needy section of the society for social and economic empowerment.
· To develop linkages with rural development department both at Government and private sectors.
