NATIONAL RAGGING PREVENTION PROGRAMME

The Anti-Ragging Cell of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) is a dedicated body established to uphold a ragging-free and safe environment across all its nine (9) campuses. The cell operates in strict compliance with the guidelines laid out by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the directives of the Supreme Court of India, which mandate a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging in educational institutions. Its primary objective is to prevent any form of ragging by fostering awareness among students and ensuring a harmonious academic atmosphere.

The Anti-Ragging Cell is headed by a Dean/ Associate Dean/ OSD/senior faculty member, supported by a team comprising faculty representatives, administrative staff, and student representatives, ensuring a balanced approach to addressing concerns. The cell actively works on preventive measures by conducting awareness programs, workshops, and sensitization campaigns for students, faculty, and staff. These initiatives aim to educate the university community about the harmful consequences of ragging and the importance of mutual respect and camaraderie.

The cell provides a secure and accessible platform for students to report any instances of ragging, with assurance of confidentiality and immediate action. Complaints can be lodged through various channels, such as an online portal, email, or in person. Upon receiving a complaint, the cell conducts a thorough investigation and takes prompt corrective action, which may include disciplinary measures in accordance with university regulations and legal provisions.

AAU also promotes the Anti-Ragging Cell’s objectives by integrating awareness into orientation programs for new students and obtaining anti-ragging undertakings from students and their parents at the time of admission. In addition, the university displays anti-ragging guidelines prominently across campuses to reinforce its commitment to a safe and welcoming environment. Through the proactive efforts of the Anti-Ragging Cell, AAU ensures that every student experiences a positive, respectful, and enriching academic journey.

A vigilance committee for the checking and curbing the menace of ragging is regularly in place, which comprises of the following members:

  • Dean, FA- Chairman
  • Director, Student Welfare- Member
  • Chief Warden- Member
  • All Hostel Wardens- Member
  • Senior Faculty member- Member
