The Department of Agricultural Engineering of Assam Agricultural University was established in the year 1948 as a part of the erstwhile agricultural college under government of Assam. Later on in the year 1969 it became a part of the Assam Agricultural University. At present , Department of Agricultural Engineering is a constituent department under the Faculty of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.
It caters to teaching undergraduate courses of Agriculture and Research mostly on network mode. Moreover, besides reasonable extension activities, the Department also involves itself with minor repair and maintenance activities of various departments, laboratories, farms, hostels etc. under both the faculties of agriculture and home science.
Agricultural engineering : is the engineering discipline that applies engineering science and technology to to production, processing, preservation and handling of food, feed and fibre. Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of animal biology, plant biology, and mechanical, civil, electrical and chemical engineering principles in:
Vision : To make agriculture sustainable, profitable and competitive enterprise through engineering interventions of farm mechanization, value addition and energy management in production and post harvest operations in the state of Assam.
Mission :To develop and introduce need-based and region-specific engineering technologies to achieve sustainable enhanced productivity and profitability of different farming systems.
Mandate : To plan, coordinate, and monitor R & D programmes and serve as an information repository in Agricultural Engineering
