The Department of Fisheries Engineering is one of the major department in the College of Fisheries. It was opened recently in 2016 as per 5th Dean”s Committee Recommendation. A total of 14 (8+6) credits is being offered by the department in under graduate level (BFSc) and 9 (6+3) credits in post-graduation (MFSc) level as minor course for the Department of Fish Processing Technology in each year. The P.G. programme in the Department is yet to be started.
Activities like teaching and research programmes of the department are aimed at pertaining quality education and conducting research in the fields of aquaculture engineering, fishing craft and gear materials, design and construction of fishing gears and craft, fishing technology, protection of biodiversity, Environmental safety, fish preservation techniques, validation, standardization and mechanization of ITKs related to harvest and post-harvest technology of fishes etc.
There are now two faculty members in the Department in the rank of Assistant Professor. The faculty of the Department is being engaged in teaching and research activities of the College as well as involved in the extension activities like dissemination of proven technologies and expertise through publications, awareness, training, demonstrations.
The department successfully completed 2 nos. of DBT funded projects and one Institute research project of ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, Punjab.

1. 1. Completed a DBT Twinning project entitled “Refinement of Process Protocol for Preparation of Traditional Fermented Fish Products of Northeast India by using Biotechnological Tools and its Process Mechanization” at the Department of Fisheries Engineering, College of Fisheries, AAU, Raha in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Post -Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, Punjab, India.
2. A DBT BIOTECH BASED Aspirational District project “Development of Sustainable Rural Livelihood options through Hygienic Fish Drying Activities by Establishment of Technology Demonstration Centre” is being implemented at four different project sites from two districts of Assam (Kawaimari and Eraratari of Barpeta district and Kataligaon and Kokalabari of Baksa district), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Assam.
3. One faculty is acting as Co-PI in Institute Research Project of ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, Punjab “Development of mechanized system for deodorization and safe handling of dried fish”.
A. Technology transfer:
1. 1. Technology on “Preparation of Hygienic Dry fish products using Solar Mechanical Dryer with electrical back up” was transferred for the first time in Assam to 200 nos. of beneficiaries of four different project sites from two districts of Assam (Kawaimari and Eraratari of Barpeta district and Kataligaon and Kokalabari of Baksa district) under Biotech based DBT Aspirational district project entitled “Development of Sustainable Rural Livelihood options through Hygienic Fish Drying Activities by Establishment of Technology Demonstration Centre” .

1. Dr. Bipul Kumar Kakati Participated in 2 nos. of Radio Talk on “Fisheries activities for income generation” (broadcasted on 14/12/17 & 21/12/2017)
C. Event Organized
1. 1. 28 no of Training & Demonstration programme on Hygienic preparation of Dry fish products using Solar Mechanical Fish Dryer with Electrical Back up were organized at four different project sites of two selected districts Barpeta and Baksa under DBT funded Aspirational District project. A total of 360 numbers of beneficiaries were benefited from these programmes.
2. 2. 10 numbers of Awareness Programme were conducted for 198 nos. of beneficiaries at four different project sites of Barpeta and Baksa district of Assam on “Hygienic dry fish production for income generation” under the DBT funded project.
3. Involved in one year training programme for fishery Demonstrator of Karbi Along district.
4. Conducted demonstration on preparation of hygienic dry fish using Solar Polythene Tent dryer at Raha 26/02/2019.

D. Act as Resource person:
1.1.Acted as Resource person in HRD training programme for SMS (Fisheries) of KVKs held at AAU campus, Jorhat on 16/03/2016 (09/03/2016).
