1. Since the start of MVSc degree program, a total 36 students was awarded with the MVSc degree and 10 students was awarded with PhD degree in Parasitology.2. The Department of Parasitology organized
XXIII National Congress of Veterinary Parasitology and National Symposium
on the theme “Parasitology Today: From Environmental and Social Impact to
the Application of Geoinformatics and Modern Biotechnology” from 12th
to 14th December, 2012 under the aegis of the Indian Association for
the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology.
3. The Department of Parasitology organized a short course on the topic “Ecology,
Epidemiology, Surveillance and Control of Parasitic Diseases of
Livestock’ was organized by the Department of Parasitology which was
sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, from 22nd
to 31st July, 1996.
4. A state level workshop on “Oriental
Theileriosis in Cattle of Assam” was organized by the Department of
Parasitology, CVSc, AAU, on 27th October, 2014 for the field veteriians.
5.The Department of Parasitology along
with Department of Microbiology, Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and
Preventive Medicine, CVSc,Khanapara in collaboration with the Institute of Veterinary
Biologicals , Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department , Govt. of Assam organized
a training programme to the paravets in a ‘State Level Training Programme for
Paravets (Under ASCAD)’ during the month of March, 2014.
6. The Department of Parasitology has successfully completed 14 externally funded projects at various point of time.
7. Presently, a DBT sponsored project entitled 'Development of indigenous herbal medicine incorporated urea molasses block to combat the anthelmintic resistance in intestinal nematodosis of goats' is under operation with a total cost of Rs. 33, 62,492.00 (Reg No. of the project : BT#PR 41668#NER#95#1721#2021).
8. The Department could successfully achieve the followings:-
i. Mapping of wetland habitats of aquatic snails through remote sensing satellite data,
identification snails with cercarial fauna and identification of indigenous
phytomolluscicides.
ii. Identification of intermediate hosts of
several poultry tapeworms\
iii. Identification of tick and mite fauna
infesting domestic and wild animals.
iv. Identification of helminth fauna of
cattle, buffalo, goat, pig, dog, cat and poultry in Assam and development of
bioclimatograph for forecasting haemonchosis.
v. Hydatidosis-cysticercosis and fish-borne
zoonotic helminths prevalent in Assam could be recorded
vi. Identification of parasites of wildlife
including epidemiology, life-cycle, pathology, diagnosis and chemotherapy of Fasciola jacksoni in Asian elephants.
vii. Establishment of Gnathostoma spinigerum in Anabas
scandens.
viii. Coccidian parasites of poultry, cattle,
goat and pig.
ix. Formulation of low cost treatment
against humpsore.
x. Status of haemoprasites in companion
animal and formulation of 2-drug regimen for the treatment of clinical
babesiosis in dog.
xi. Formulation of plant based anthelmintics
for control of gastrointestinal parasites in small ruminants.
xii. Exploration of helminth parasites of
ducks.
