Veterinary Pathology
Department of Veterinary Pathology acts as a bridge between the basic Veterinary Sciences and the clinical veterinary sciences. The Department of Veterinary Pathology plays a major role in disease diagnosis since inception. Major animals included livestock, pet, poultry, wild life, zoo animal etc. The basic diagnostic techniques involved are necropsy and histopathological techniques with various special staining methods. The confirmatory diagnosis of disease is assisted by molecular pathology, clinical and biochemical pathology, primary bacteriological isolation and identification have been conducted in the intra departmental laboratories etc.
The Department of Pathology was established in the erstwhile Assam Veterinary College as the Department of Pathology and Bacteriology in 1949. The M.V.Sc degree programme in Vety. Pathology was started 1974. In the year 1975, the Department was bifurcated into two independent departments i.e. the Department of Pathology and the Department of Microbiology. In 1986, the Ph.D. programme was started. So far the Department has completed three (3) Research projects funded by different agencies like ICAR, CIFE & CIFRI and ASTEC, Assam. A total of 81 numbers of PG students (65 MVSc. and 16 PhD students) completed their degree programmes. At present, 10 M.V.Sc. and 1 Ph.D students persuing their degree. There are total eight (8) teaching staff working in the Department out of which two (2) faculty members are attached with Teaching Veterinary Complex (TVC).
