Achievements
  • TEACHING: • Taught 17 (fifteen) numbers of UG and PG courses • Prepared 3 instructional materials for course number Nema-312, Nema-503 & Nema-509 and 1 laboratory manual for course number Nema-222 • Guided 1 (one) Ph.D and 6 (six) M. Sc (Agri) students as Major Adviser and 2 (two) Ph.D. and 6 (six) M.Sc. students as member of the Advisory Committee. • Presently guiding 1 (one) Ph.D. student 2 (Two) M.Sc. (Agri) students as Major Adviser and 1 (one) Ph.D. and 1(one) M.Sc. students as member of the Advisory Committee.
  • RESEARCH: • Surveyed the citrus orchards of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of Assam for association of plant parasitic nematodes with citrus. Among the seven plant parasitic nematodes, citrus nematode, Tylenchulus semipenetrans was recorded with the frequency of occurrence ranging from 30 to 80 percent. • Among different mulching materials and botanicals tested against T. semipenetrans, leaf litter and neem cake respectively were found to be best in reducing the nematode population. • Actively involved in generating the following technologies which were recommended under technology Mission / AICRP on Tropical fruits for use by the farmers: 1. Mud plastering of trunk borer holes soon after application of petrol. 2. Studied the life table of citrus trunk borer and identified its vulnerable stages for effective control of the insect. Grub-1 stage of the insect was the most vulnerable stage with highest percentage of mortality (52.08) followed by egg and pupal stage (42.86). • Actively involved in identifying and screening the farmer’s problems by conducting PRA survey in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of Assam as resource person of the PRA team. • Undertook various nematological research programmes of AICRP on Tropical Fruits and state schemes. • Actively involved in the PRA project entitled “Bio ecology and management of root-knot nematode Meloidogyne spp. on vegetable crops in Assam” as an associated scientist, Dept. of Nematology, AAU, Jorhat 13 during 2004-2007. • Successfully accomplished the Faculty Research Project “Management of disease complex caused by Meloidogyne incognita and Rhizoctonia solani on okra” as P.I., Dept. of Nematology, AAU, and Jorhat 13 during 2005-2008. • Surveyed most of the districts of Assam for distribution of economically important plant parasitic nematodes and an updated map upto 2015 have been prepared under AICRP (Nematodes). • Made the following recommendations for use by the farmers that have been included in the package of practices of the University in 2015: I. Application of Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 20 g/m2 at sowing for the management of rice root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola in rice (Direct seeded) II. Seed treatment with NSKP @ 5 g/kg seed + T. viride @ 5 g/kg for the management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in mung III. Application of Carbofuran @ 1 kg a.i./ha + Biofor pf @ 2.50 kg/ha (with vermicompost at 1:10) one day before sowingof seeds for the management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita and Ralstonia solanacearum in jute. • Validated certain technologies of AICRP (Nematodes) through the NCIPM project “Validation and promotion of IPM strategies for nematode hot spots in different agro-climatic zones (In collaboration with NCIPM)” in different locations of Assam in farmers field. • Surveyed different cultivars of banana plants for association of insect pests and nematodes in different districts of two agro climatic zones of Assam viz., Barak Valley Zone and Hill zone under AICRP on Tropical fruits • Pongamia oil was found to be most effective in the management of Pseudostem borer of banana exhibiting the feeding deterrent/repellent and toxic effects against this insect. • Presently working on identification of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in banana and isolation of endophytes for its management through the DBT funded project “Harnessing the potential of endophytes against root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in banana”.
  • EXTENSION • Imparted trainings to extension personals and farmers under the activities of KVK, Technology Mission, other training programmes organized by Dept. of Agriculture. • Imparted a number of trainings to farmers under “Amar Gaon Amar Prasasan” Programme of Tinsukia district Administration on various aspects. • Imparted a no. of trainings to farmers through AICRP (Nematodes) • Imparted no. of refresher training to the SMSs of KVKs • Organized training under the programmes sponsored by NCIPM, New Delhi in Khutiapota, Alengmora, Boloma Moran gaon, Teok, Jorhat, Danichapori, Gelabil, Dergaon, Golaghat etc. • Organized “nematode awareness programmes” at Morangaon, Marioni in 26.09.2013 and “Nematode awareness day” under NCIPM, New Delhi at Morangaon, Teok, Jorhat on 3rd October, 2015. • Conducted PRA Survey in different A.E.O. circles of Tinsukia district as resource person to identify the researchable problems and training needs of the farmers. • Acted as resource person in several “Farmers-Scientists Interaction” programmes in farmers fare and other exhibitions. • Provided consultancy service to the “Integrated Waste Land Development project (Kozonga Kaitia)” of DRDA, Tinsukia during 2001-2002. • Successfully accomplished the TSP programme “Livelihood promotion of tribal farmers through vegetable cultivation” in 4 villages of Dhemaji district involving 25 nos. of tribal farmers. The programme was accomplished in collaboration with KVK, Dhemaji district. • Conducted Ten numbers of Demonstrations at farmer’s field. • Conducted seven (seven) T.V. programmes through DDK, Guwahati and Dibrugarh and 7 (seven) Radio talks through AIR, Jorhat. • Published 7 (seven) extension bulletin • Published 2 (two) extension leaflets • Published 1 popular article
