Achievements
  • Diversity of PGPR consists of symbiotic and non-symbiotic N fixers [Aerobic and Microaerophillic] and Nutrient solubilizers that includes PSB, KSB and ZSB [Bacillus proteolyticus, Serratia liquifaciens, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pseudomycoides, Pseudomonas putida and Burkholderia ambifera has been exploited from NER and commercialized.
  • Culturable endophytic actinobacteria [Streptomyces longispororuber, Streptomyces rochei, Streptomyces parvulus, Streptomyces warraensis and Nocardiopsis albaI] isolated from rice exhibited antimicrobial activity against Fusarium oxysporum, Ralstonia solani, Curvolaria lunata and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum.
  • The three native isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis S5C3, S25C1 and J11C5 were found to be effective against two important polyphagous pests, Spodoptera litura and Helicoverpa armigera. The standard Bt kurstaki (HD-1) shown very high LC50 (320 ppm) against S. litura as compared to H. armigera (LC50=4 ppm). These three native Bt isolates J11C5 (LC50=21ppm), G20W (LC50=26 ppm) and S5C3 (LC50=29 ppm) showing potential for developing biopesticide formulation for S .litura.
  • Standardized the method of preparation of Enriched compost for augmentation of the fertilizer value of normal farm compost. The nutrient (N, P, K) values of normal compost could be increased up to 1.9-2.0%, 1.15-1.20% and 0.91-0.96% of NPK respectively following enriching with rock phosphate and inoculation of beneficial microbes. The populations of beneficial microbes equally increased by 20-25 times over initial state.
  • The biofertilizer microbes screened under the project effectively utilized for development of cost effective Integrated nutrient management (INM) package for rice and/or rice-toria crop sequence. This INM package successfully demonstrated in rice and/or rice-toria sequence in different KVKs located across Assam[Courtesy KVKs of Assam for OFT trials].
  • Formulated the microbial consortium of biofertilizer microbes of Rhizobium, Azospirillum, Azotobacter and phosphate solubilizing bacteria in a single medium which maintained the individual population to the tune of 106-107 cfu/ml.
  • Organic Nutrient package for rice: Enriched Compost (@5t/ha)+ Biofertilizer (Azospirillum, Azotobacter and PSB mix. @4.0kg/ha as seedling root dip) or Azolla @ 500kg/ha as dual crop + biofertilizers (Azospirillum, Azotobacter and PSB mix. @4.0kg/ha as seedling root dip) was recommended as organic nutrient package for Sali rice.[Courtesy KVKs of Assam for OFT trials]
  • Integrated nutrient management for Jute:NPK@15:13:25(kg/ha) + Biofertilizer (Azospirillum + PSB, 3.5kg each ) as seed coating recommended as INM for Jute in Jute growing areas of Assam (Courtesy: Dr. N.S.Zaman, Principal Scientist, RARS Shillongoni, for conducting trials in Nagaon and Morigaon]
  • Zinc Solubilizing Bacteria for Zn Nutrition in rice: Zn solubilizing Bacteria (3.5kg/ha) as seedling root dip treatment recommended in Zn deficient soils for rice along with recommended NPK.
  • Industry Collaboration

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between private entrepreneur M/S Green Biotech Ecosolutions Private Ltd. Imphal West, Manipur:795146 for production of biofertilizers
  • Organized six (twenty one days) ICAR sponsored trainings under Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Organic Farming as Course Coordinator.
  • Involved as member in the creation of infrastructures for production of organic inputs (Azolla and compost units) in 10 KVKs of Assam under RKVY project.
  • Sequenced and submitted the native Microaerophillic N-fixer [Azospirillum sp (MW301143)], Free Living N-Fixers [Azotobacter sp ( MW301147) and Bacillus pumilus (MW301393)] and Potassium solubilizing bacteria [Bacillus paramycoides (MW301148) and Bacillus proteolyticus (MW301149)] in NCBI.
  • Sequenced and submitted the native Phosphate solubilizing bacteria [Bacillus circulans (MW301145),Bacillus circulans (MW301146), Bacillus proteolyticus (MW301150),Paraburkholderia tropica (MW341420) and Paraburkholderia tropica (MW341419)] and Zinc solubilizing Bacteria[Burkholderia seminalis (MW301140), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MW301141), Bacillus paramycoides (MW301142) ,Burkholderia ambifaria (MW301144) and Bacillus subtilis (MW341418)] in NCBI.
  • Obtained four ( two DBT, one UN-GEF and one RKV) externally funded projects as Principal Investigator.
  • Recommended potash solubilizing bacteria (Bacillus proteolyticus+ Serratia liquifaciens) @3.5kg as seedling root dip treatment with NPK@60:20:20(kg/ha) for transplanted sali rice. Application of KSB can reduce the potassic fertilizer by 20kg/ha.(Recommended in Package of practices for kharif crops of Assam,2021).
  • Standardized the liquid consortia of biofertilizers [N-Fixer (Azospirillum sp) + P-solubilizer(Paraburkholderia tropica)+K- solubilizer( Bacillus proteolyticus)] and their utilization in INM and Organic rice.
