All India Coordinated Research Project on POULTRY BREEDING (Rural Poultry Production) is one of the prestigious project run by ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad as lead centre with twelve numbers of centres through out the country. ICAR-AICRP on Poultry Breeding, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati centre is one of them operated under the Directorate of Research (Veterinary), Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara.

1. Development of location specific chicken varieties of chicken as per the choice of rural farmers’ of Assam
2. Procurement, conservation and improvement of Daothigir breed.

ü “KAMRUPA”
AICRP on Poultry Breeding, AAU, Khanapara, Guwahati has developed Kamrupa variety of chicken, a dual purpose multi-coloured bird for rural poultry production and was released on 15-02-2015
· The PB-2 male is crossed with indigenous female.
· The male of crossbred (PB-2 x Indigenous) is crossed with DahlemRed female to produced Kamrupa.
ü Kamrupa Germplasm Supply during the FY 2023-24: 46,211 numbers ( DOC- 31,423 & Hatching egg 14,788)
