Dr.  Bidyut  Chandan Deka, assumed charge of  the Vice Chancellor of AAU on October 22, 2020 from Dr. Ashok  Bhattacharyya, Director of  Research (Agri) of  the university was officiating as Vice Chancellor (i/c) of AAU since August 1, 2019.

Dr. Deka was a former alumnus of Assam Agricultural University who passed  B. Sc. (Agri) and M. Sc. (Agri) in the year 1988 and 1990, respectively.
 
Before joining the University, he was serving as Director, ATARI (ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute), Umiam, Meghalaya.
