Greetings from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor
Dear Colleagues,
Assam Agricultural University since its inception in 1969 has been working for the overall development of the farm sector in Assam with utmost dedication and sincerity. During recent milestones, the Assam Rice Research Institute, Titabor completed 100 years of establishment, the College of Community Science completed its 50th year, and the College of Agriculture completed 75 years of distinguished service. It is a matter of immense pride for the University to be ranked 19th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) from its earlier 41st rank among the institutes of agriculture and allied sectors.
We have put into practice a good many initiatives for taking AAU in the direction as envisioned. Undergraduate students are motivated and mentored to become entrepreneurs from their 2nd year 1st semester onwards, nurturing a robust startup culture with the requisite training and confidence to launch entrepreneurial ventures by graduation.
Our collective efforts have brought notable achievements for the university, including the notification of ten crop varieties by the Central Variety Release Committee; infrastructure development for a medium-term rice germplasm conservation facility in the form of a “Rice Gene Bank” at AAU-ARRI, Titabar; Multi-Seed Processing Plants at Titabor and ICR Farm, Jorhat; a Cryo Gene Bank for Citrus at AAU-CPCRS, Tinsukia; development of AAUVET Dog Nibbles; launching of poultry disease diagnosis in PPP mode; industry-academic collaborative projects on poultry disease and Classical Swine Fever vaccine; development of a Muga Detection Kit to verify the purity of muga silk; and standardization of protocols for induced breeding of indigenous fish species.
Assam Agricultural University also took pioneering steps in the carbon market through the formation of the Carbon Finance Potential Committee involving KVKs and Zonal Research Stations. This project aims to harness carbon credit from at least 10 million trees covering 10 districts of Assam, with over 3 lakh different tree species already registered.
The AAU Open and Distance Learning (ODL) program has picked strong momentum with over 600 trainees receiving skill training in 26 different modules through blended mode. Furthermore, our extension wing through KVKs and ZRS has conducted massive technology demonstration programs on the rapeseed-mustard value chain covering 800 hectares across the state in collaboration with ICAR-DRMR, Bharatpur.
Wishing all faculty, students, staff, and farming communities a prosperous, fulfilling, and impactful journey ahead.
With warm regards,
