Along with desi chicken he also used to rear 10 nos of Vanaraja birds and earned another net income of Rs 12000.00 instead of Rs 3,500.00 per year from 10 desi chicken. Moreove,. He appraised Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat about his plans and challenges about growing oyster mushroom cultivation throughout the year. In response to his interest and enthusiasm, he was provided with all possible technical guidance along with mushroom spawn. In Dec, 2016 he started a small mushroom production unit and at present he is a successful mushroom grower with the brand name of Sum’s Mushroom Enterprise. He encourages the local youths to form Self-Help Groups and to undertake production of oyster mushroom as a profitable enterprise. Now his yearly average net income from oyster mushroom is Rs 132000.00. So, from all the above mentioned Enterprises he earns a total net income of Rs 189,500.00 which fulfills his monthly financial needs for higher education as well as a financial support to his parents and whole family. ( Phone no of Mr. Sum Mohananda is 8638952047)
Mr. Prahlad Chetri (45 years old) of Mithaam Chapori, Morongi, Golaghat, Assam till 2015-16 was involved in traditional way of farming without having any scientific knowledge of farming. Though Mr. Chetri had 6 ha (45 bigha) of land he could cultivate only 3.33 ha (25 bigha) of his cultivable land. The rest 2.67 ha (15 bigha) was left fellow and was never utilized for cultivation. Farmer Chetri mostly cultivated local paddy var. Holpuna, Moniori, Prasad bhog, Daria, Borbanki and Ranjit in most of the area and few vegetable crops like cabbage, cauliflower, brinjal and chilli were grown. He had 4 cows, 5 goat and 25 desi chicken with an average egg production of 40 to 45 eggs per hen per year. From all the activities in 2015-16 Farmer Chetri earned a total income of Rs 96,000.00 which was not sufficient to meet his growing family requirements. The village of Mr. Prahalad Chetri is located in flood prone area and often hit by flood every year which resulted in heavy loss in his crop production. He was struggling with the effects of flood and approached Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat in the year 2015.
Technology, Implementation and Support
Mr. Prahlad Chetri approached Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat, Assam in August, 2015 for guidance, support, training, demonstrations from the Scientists of the KVK, Golaghat. Farmer Chetri was guided to increase the cropping intensity and promote Rabi cultivation. Large scale cultivation of Toria (var. TS 46 & TS 67) and Black Gram (PU 31) is now regularly cultivated after paddy in an area of 4 ha (30 bigha) and noticeable cultivation of vegetables like Pumpkin (Var. Arjuna), Cabbage(Var. Rare ball), Cauliflower (Var. Subhasini), Knolkhol, Spinach, Raddish (Var. Chinese pink), Carrot etc. in an area of 1.33 ha (10 bigha). Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat with the financial assistance of CSR Division of Numaligarh Refinery Limited has also established a organized Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) at Mithaam Chapori Village where various farm implements are given to the farmers at lowest possible rent of which Farmer Prahlad Chetri is a direct beneficiary which has supported him to increase the cropping area. He has also increased the number of livestock from 4 cows, 5 goat and 25 desi chicken to 8 cows, 11 goat and 10 Vanaraja chicken with a average of 240 to 250 egg annually. Mr Prahlad Chetri also with the guidance and demonstrations provided by KVK, Golaghat has also cultivated short duration paddy variety Luit and Dishang in an area of 1.34 ha (10 bigha) whis has given good result in escaping flood. Again introduction of Paddy Variety Ranjit Sub 1 by KVK, Golaghat has changed the scenario of paddy cultivation in the flood prone villages like Mithaan Chapori. Introduction of Paddy Variety Ranjit Sub 1 by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat to Mr Prahlad Chetri has resulted in increase of paddy cultivation from 3.33 ha (25 bigha) way back in 2015-16 to 5.33 ha (40 bigha) in 2019-20. KVK Golaghat , Assam
Mr. Debojit Kaman (50 years old) of 2 No. Porongonia gaon, Kuruabahi, Golaghat, Assam was involved in farming activities from his childhood. He started his farming occupation by following his forefather’s technique. His family is still undivided join family. Earlier the income generated from his farm was sufficient for him to look after his family. But as family members’ numbers goes increasing and with the increasing price of commodity it was difficult to mitigate the increasing demand of his family’s day to day requirement. For him to take care of each and every member of his family it was not possible to meet the demand by doing agriculture practices in traditional way as he followed previously. Therefore for upliftment of his farm income, he came into contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat in the year of 2015. He has 30 ha of land area in which he cultivated only local varieties of crop like paddy var. Musuri, , Huagmini, Lokhon Hali, Kola Joha, Ronga Joha, Bao Dhan- Omona, Chana puna etc Black Gram, Green Gram, Lentil, Toria, cole crops, solaneceaeus crops etc. He had 15 no’s of cows, 20 numbers of goat and 30 numbers of desi chicken and 10 numbers of pig. From all the activities in 2015 farmer Kaman earned a total income of 2,00,000.00 which was not sufficient to meet his growing family requirement.
Technology, Implementation and Support:
Mr. Debojit Kaman approaches to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat, Assam in 2014-15 and as per the guidance, support, training, crop demonstration, livestock production from the scientist of the KVK, he integrated all the components like crop production, livestock, and fishery. So that the by product from one component is used as the input in other component. This is how he reduces the farm waste and thus reduces the expenditure from input. He used modern machineries in his farm to reduce labor cost. He had a vermicompost tank and his one side of farm land is completely under organic cultivation.
The village 2 No. Porongonia is located in flood prone area and often hit by flood every year which result in heavy loss in his crop production during Kharif season. Farmer Kaman was guided to increase the cropping intensity and promote Rabi cultivation. Large scale cultivation of Toria (Var. TS-67, TS-38, M-27) in 7 ha of land area and Black gram (SB-2-73, SBC-47, SBC-50, SBC-40, IPU-02-43) in 5 ha of land area is now regularly cultivated. Other crops like Pumpkin (Var. Arjuna), Cabbage, Cauliflower, Knolkhol, Spinach, Maize (HQPM 1), Raddish, Carrot, Capsicum, Potato (Kufri Pokhraj, Kufri Bahar), Tomato (Abhinash), Pea (Aman), Garlic, Turmeric (Mega turmeric) Colocassia, Onion (Arka Ujjwal), Chilli (Tejaswini), Jute (Tarun), Coriander etc are cultivate in an area of 6 ha. He also earned profit from other component.
Mr. Kaman, who is a man of innovative mind always ready to do hard work for the up gradation of economic status of his family as well as to encourage the local people to earn the livelihood through agricultural activities. Along with agriculture, he also has good numbers of dairy cow, goat, poultry, pigeon, pigs and ducks etc. He have 25 no’s of crossbred dairy cow with a net income of Rs 49,000 per year. From piggery sector he earned a net profit of Rs 1, 52,000 per annum from 20 no’s pig along with he have 25 no’s of goat with a profit of Rs 1, 1000 per year. As he have own agricultural byproduct with very less coast its became easy for rearing 50 nos of poultry, 80 no’s of pigeon and 10 no’s of duck with a net profit of Rs 1200, Rs,10,500 and Rs 4000 accordingly. He also associated with Dist. Agricultural Office and involved in different scheme. He bought 2 no’s of tractor with trailer, 1 no’s of power tiller with government subsidy. At present his yearly income was near about 12,00,000.00 which is enough for him to support his family.
Background Profile :
Ms. Ajanta Das is a progressive farm women of No. 1 Goroimari, village of Golaghat district of Assam. Being the eldest sibling with a little bother and a widow mother, She could not completed her graduation due to financial problems immediately after that at her 23rd years she took farming as her passion to support her poor family. At that period she faced many social problems as women did not solely involved in agricultural farming and she had no technological knowhow related to farming. Therefore she adopted traditional cultivation practices. In the beginning she started local paddy cultivation with an area of ha. and followed by mustard and other local rabi vegetables. Her earning was still not sufficient to run her family comfortably inspite of her hard-hitting work .
Technology, Implementation and support of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Golaghat
During the year 2002 she came in contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Golaghat and adopts scientific practices for cultivation of different crops round the year. She converted her traditional farming practice with scientific practice with the advice, guidance and support of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Golaghat. With the technological backstopping she replace local paddy variety with high yielding rice variety Ranjit and local mustard with TS-36, TS-67. To earn more profit from her hard labour she gradually selected hybrid varieties over local varieties for example in case of rabi vegetable like Cabbage var: Golden Acre, Pride of India, Cauliflower var: Snow ball, Knolkhol var: White Viena, Pea var: Azad, RKL, Tomato var: Indo American Rupali and Chilli var:Sultan and able to achieve a good return of an amount of Rs. 80500.00 ( Rupees eighty thousand and five hundred only) only from rabi vegetable. She also replaced her 5 nos of local goat with Crossed Beetel as per suggestion of scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Golaghat and able to got a return of Rs. 11,000.00 per annum from this component. During this long period from 2002 -2019 she always kept close contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Golaghat. This year Krishi Vigyan Kendra Golaghat also conducted an Demonstration programme of potato variety Kufri Bahar in her field covering an area of 0.5 hactre under ICAR NEH Component 2019-20. At present Ms. Das is a successful and self-dependent farm woman of her village.
Ms. Ajanta Das is one of the few successful farm women of Golaghat district,. In her leadership she formed many Self Help groups, Krishi gut and first dairy development group of Golaghat district. The activities of that group able to motivate many unemployed youth of the district towards farming.Mrs. Ajanta Das is always concerned with the health hazards of farm women. Therefore she invented a “Tool for fertilizer and soil mixing at pits” to reduce health hazard of farm women.
Being a successful Farm woman she is able to motivate and inspired the women of her locality towards farming. As a result woman of her locality becoming self dependent and self sufficient. Ms. Ajanta Das was felicitated and appreciated by many organizations, institutions for showing the path of development to fellow farmers of the State of Assam and for playing the role of torch bearer for agricultural development in the Golaghat district.
Mr. Niranjan Pegu (67 years old) of Balijan Adarsha Missing Gaon, Bokakhat, Golaghat, Assam was involved in farming in very traditional way. He started his farming occupation in the year 2000 without any farm implements or land holdings. In the year 2003 he took loan from Lakhimi Gaolia Bank, Bokakhat and bought a power tiller and started his farming activity with three fellow farmers and made profit and cleared his loan. In the year 2005 the bank gave him loan for a big tractor and Rs. 10,000.00 as K.C.C loan. He along with 10 fellow farmers started blackgram cultivation in 26.67 ha of fallow land in the bank of Brahmaputra River and made enough profit. With that money he took 13.33 ha of land on lease for 10 years and along with his brothers owed 10.67 ha of land and started his farm in total 24.0 ha of area and gradually he increases his farming activity and at present his yearly net income is nearly Rs. 11,00,000.00. Farmer Pegu mostly cultivated local paddy variety Huagmoni, Chana Puna, Kola Hali, Hati Hali, Jahinga, Khamti Amona Bao, Negheri Bao, Maguri Bao etc. At the very beginingt he did not had any livestock and poultry. From all the activities in 2016 farmer Pegu earned a net income of Rs. 2,00,000.00 which was not sufficient to support his big family. So to uplift his socio economic condition and doing farming practice in more appropriate and scientific way he approached Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat in the year 2016.
Mr. Niranjan Pegu came in to contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Golaghat Assam in the year 2016. At that time he was involving only traditional way of farming and his yearly net income was about 2,00,000.00 only. He approached for technical guidance, training, crop demonstration and livestock production from the scientist of KVK, Golaghat. The village of Mr. Pegu is located in flood prone area and often hit by flood every year which result in heavy loss in his crop production during Kharif season. Farmer Pegu was guided to increase the cropping intensity and promote Rabi cultivation. Large scale cultivation of Toria (Var. TS-67, TS-38) in an area of 24 ha and Black gram (PU-31, SB-27-3) in an area of 6 ha is now regularly cultivated. Different horticulture and field crops like Pumpkin (Var. Arjuna), Cabbage, Cauliflower, Knolkhol, Spinach, Raddish, Carrot, Capsicum, Potato (Kufri Pokhraj, Kufri Bahar), Tomato (Abhinash), Pea (Aman), Garlic, Turmeric (Mega turmeric) Colocassia, Onion (Nasik), Chilli, Jute (Tarun), Coriander etc are cultivate in an area of 5 ha. He also replaces the local breed of cow with cross breed to increase his income from livestock. He has 2 No’s of good quality cross breed cow and earn a net income of Rs 26,000.00. He has 60 No’s of Local Poultry with a profit of Rs 14,000.00 as he does not sale the eggs so the profit comes from chicks only. Also he has 50 No’s of Pigeon, 2 No’s of Hampshire cross breed of pig earned a net income of Rs. 21,600.00 and 27 No’s of Goat earn a net income of Rs. 1,21,200.00. Again introduction of submergence tolerant Sali rice variety Ranjit Sub 1 by KVK, Golaghat has changed the scenario of paddy cultivation in flood prone areas like Balijan Adarsha Missing Gaon. Mr. Pegu replaced his local variety of paddy with Ranjit sub 1. He has a fishery covering 4.5 bigha of land areas, from this fishery he earn a profit of worth Rs.1,00,000.00 per year. In the year of 2016 his net income was only 2,00,000.00 But by adopting scientific technology his income increase gradually. Last year in 2018 it was 9,00,000.00 and in 2019 it was approximately 10,00,000.00-11,00,000.00 which is 10-11% more than the previous and 80% more as compared to the year 2016. Now he is able to meet his family requirement and able to upgrade his socio economic condition.
