Krishi Vigyan, Lakhimpur:
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is an
integral part of National Agricultural Research System (NARS), aims at
assessment of location specific technology modules in agriculture and allied
sectors, through technology assessment, refinement and demonstrations. KVK has
been functioning as knowledge and resource centre of agriculture technology
supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving
the agricultural economy of the district and are linking the NARS with
extension system and farmers. All the KVKs are funded by ICAR and are
sanctioned to different host organizations. As on date, there are a total of
732 KVKs are functioning in the country under 11 ATARI (Agricultural Technology
Application Research Institute) zones (Zone I to XI
The vision of KVK is science and
technology-led growth leading to enhance productivity, profitability and
sustainability of agriculture in the country and the mission of the KVK is
farmer-centric growth in agriculture and allied sectors through application of
appropriate technologies in specific agro-ecosystem. The mandate of KVK is
technology assessment and demonstration for its application and capacity
development. For effective implementation of the mandate, the following
activities are assigned to each KVK:

Farm Testing (OFT) to assess the location specificity of agricultural
technologies under various farming sectors.

Front
Line Demonstrations (FLD) to establish production potential of technologies on
the farmer’s fields.
¢
Capacity
development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and
skills on modern agricultural technologies.
¢
To
work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural technologies supporting
initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the
agricultural economy of the district.
¢
Provide
farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest
to farmers.
In addition, KVK produce quality
technology products and make it available to farmers, organize frontline
extension activities, identity and document farm innovations and converge with
ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.
KVKs of Assam comes under ICAR- ATARI,
ZONE VI. In Assam, there are 26 KVKsand out of which 23 KVKs are functioning
under Assam Agricultural University.
The KVK, Lakhimpur under AAU, Jorhat
was established on 05th February, 2004 at Boicha Gorumuria village
of North Lakhimpur, which is located at 04 km away from the district Head
Quarter towards East. KVK, Lakhimpur has been phenomenal in performing mandated
activities and involved in various frontline extension activities including
creating mass awareness on Govt. Flagship programmes of Govt. of India for the
benefit of the entire farming community with worthy convergence with district
administration, various research and educational institutions, financial
organizations and other line Departments.
