ABOUT KVK
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farm Science Centre), an agro-based educational institution designed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research provides specialized need based trainings to the farming community on various aspects related to agriculture and allied sectors. The prime mandate of KVK is to impart vocational training to the practising farmers, rural youth and field level Extension functionaries, conducting on farm trial, front line demonstration and transferring latest technologies to the farming communities. It provides practical approach of training by applying the principles of

. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farm Science Centre) is an innovative institute designed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research after recommendation of Mohan Singh Mehta Committee (1973) with prime mandate to impart vocational training to the practicing farmers, rural youth and field level Extension functionaries who are already employed. The KVKs, thus are the down-to-earth institutions committed to vocational training, transfer of latest technologies, on farm research and thus, serving as the light house for overall rural development in the district. Now it was recommended to have one Krishi Vigyan Kendra in each district for effective transfer of technology developed in the research system for field application in the farmers fields.
THE KVK AT A GLANCE
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat was established vide sanction order: F.No.9(10)/2005-AE-1 dtd 28/2/2006. The Kendra is about 30 km away from Jorhat town. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat is is 1.0 km south from the National Highway 37 from Kaliapani Tinali, Teok. The site is connected to the NH 37 by metal road and the KVK, Jorhat campus is connected by roads from different angles of the villages surrounding the site. The KVK is surrounded by:
North: Narang Pachani Gaon and Changmai Gaon
South: Nagadera Gaon and Tipomia Gaon
East: Sensua Gaon and Changmai Gaon
West: Adarsha Gaon and Miri Gaon
The KVK is only 35 km away from its host institute, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat under the jurisdiction of Directorate of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat was started in the year 2007 from a rented house at Jogduar. It came to full force with its various activities only after the appointment of scientific staff from various disciplines since October 2008. The total land area of the KVK is 11.93 ha out of which 5.30 ha is under crop cultivation, 1.20 ha is under office building, 1 ha under RKVY demonstration unit and 2.13ha under orchard and agroforestry. Several demonstration units like goatery, piggery, dairy, poultry, fishery, vermicompost and mushroom have been established in the kendra under RKVY.
HOW TO REACH THE KVK:
The district Jorhat is presently well connected by road from all the important places of Assam and air connection is also available. The National Highways NH 37 is passing through the district. The district headquarter Jorhat town is 300 km away from the state capital Guwahati. The KVK, Jorhat is located at Changmai Gaon, Kaliapani, Teok which is 30km away from Jorhat town and 1 km away from NH 37 through the Gate of Auniatiya Satra, Kaliapani.

An ICT enabled village was established at Puroni Lunpuria Gaon of Jorhat district by KVK Jorhat. The people/farmers of the village will be made aware of the use of the ICT tools in the field of agriculture.

Celebration of World Zoonosis Day
World Zoonosis Day celebrated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jorhat in collaboration with District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Jorhat at State Veterinary Dispensary, Bhagamuk. Dr. Prabhat Baruah, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jorhat, Dr. Rajiv Duarah, Dr Prakash Pran Borah, Dr. Sopun Jyoti Bhuyan along with other staff members participated in the program. A total of 45 livestock farmers have participated in the celebration program. A health camp was also organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jorhat.
Animal Health Camp organised in the flood affected areas of Sagunpara villages
Animal Health Camp was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra in collaboration with District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Jorhat in the flood affected areas of Sagunpara villages. Total 55 nos of farmers has participated in the Animal Health camp and total 430 animals were covered in the health camp. Deworming medicines, mineral mixture, fly repealant, vitamins etc were also distributed among the livestock owners.
