All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops was started at AAU, Jorhat during the fourth five-year plan in 1971 for multi-locational testing of the vegetable technologies developed by various research institutes and state agricultural universities. Since inception the centre has developed a number of varieties and production technologies.
Mandate:
· To collect, evaluate and conserve the vegetable biodiversity that exists in different agro-climatic zones of the country
· To develop improved varieties/ hybrids resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses through multi-locational testing of mandated vegetable crops
· To develop appropriate production technologies for selected vegetable crops
List of crops the centre is dealing with: Tomato, Brinjal, Chilli, Mustard Green, French Bean, Sponge gourd, Ridge Gourd, Bitter gourd, Bottle gourd
