3. To identify and develop varieties for early maturity, drought tolerance, late sown conditions, dormancy to pre- harvest sprouting, biotic stress resistant varieties, suitability for rain fed as well as limited irrigated conditions, easily threshable & good storage capability etc.
4. To incorporate wheat in existing cropping system for sustainable agriculture.
5. To monitor pests & disease dynamics in the region & their management.
6. To develop suitable seed storage technology.
7. To increase the productivity through improved cultural & resource management.
1. Crop Improvement
Varieties Identified & Recommended for Assam (PoP for Rabi Crops of Assam, 2019):
i) DBW 39: Duration (days): 110-115, Yield (q/ha): 30-35 (Recommender in 2019)
ii) HD 2967: Duration (days): 125-130, Yield (q/ha): 35-40 (Recommender in 2021)
iii) Wheat var. recommended are : DBW 14, DBW 39, HD 2967 & HD 3068
2. Crop Management:
For increasing yield basal application of Borax @ 7.5 kg/ha for Lower Brahmaputra Valley Zone, 10 kg/ha for North Bank Plains Zone andCentral Brahmaputra Valley Zone in addition is recommended.
