Agricultural Statistics
Agricultural Statistics was incorporated into the teaching programmes for students of the college since the establishment of the Biswanath College of Agriculture in 1988. Statistical education for Agriculturists tries to give them a solid foundation in Agricultural Statistics. The importance of statistical science in agriculture is obvious, where the collection, analysis, and interpretation of numerical data are concerned. Statistical principles apply in all experimental work areas and they have a very important role in agricultural experiments in many fields of agricultural sciences and allied areas like Agricultural Economics, Extension Education, Plant Protection, Crop Physiology, Horticulture, Field Crop Production, Vegetable Production, Agronomy, Entomology, Agricultural mechanization, Water resources, Breeding & Genetics (Plants and Animals), livestock, Veterinary medicine, Aquaculture & Fishery etc.The Department of Agricultural statistics offers both UG (compulsory & elective) and PG(as supporting discipline) courses through prescribed curriculums. To better understand the theoretical concepts of Statistics, Mathematics plays a crucial role. Hence courses are based on both Statistics and Mathematics disciplines. The present faculty strength of the department is of two numbers, one with Statistics and the other with Mathematics as background discipline.
