Achievements
  • Dr Ranjan Das, Professor, Department of Crop Physiology, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam, has been a faculty member since 1996. He has completed his B.Sc (Agri) and M.Sc. (Agri) from AAU. He has completed his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology (Climate Change and Stress Physiology) from IARI, New Delhi. He received DBT Associateship from Dept. of Plant Biology, Colorado State University, USA on alternative splicing under high temperature stress in rice. He has worked earlier as project scientist in Remote Sensing Application Centre, GoA; gathering knowledge in crop modeling, digital image processing and GIS
  • Professional experience: 25 year teaching experience, guided numbers of M.Sc. and PhD. students
  • Research priorities: Actively involved in Faculty Research, associated with externally funded project by ICAR; DST, GOI; RKVY, GOI; BARC, NESAC (ISRO, GOI) GBPNIHE, MOEF, GOI. Mainly is invoved in crop response to climate change (CC), carbon sequestration (CS), hypoxia anoxia Screening of drought and high temperature (HT), Al tolerant and low P , N utilization efficient rice; Characterization of Impacts of CC on crops like chili, Brassica, garlic, mungbean, millets etc.; Soil microbial changes under high HT and CO2, Hyper spectral remote sensing , Tapping of CO2 in rice ecosystem through azolla; Terrestrial carbon sequestration in bamboo/tea.Invoved in Set up TGT/ OTC and Bioreactor facility for studying crop response to climate change
  • Extension: Actively involved in extension activities through method demonstration, diagnostic survey and radio talk deliberation etc.
  • Organizational activity :Organised International conference on “climate change biodiversity sustainable agriculture” 13-16th December 2018, AAU, Jorhat; National Conference Plant Physiology, Jorhat –AAU from 5-7th Nov.2008., Thematic meeting on Application of Radiation Technology Agriculture, Food and Health” AAU -Jorhat on 27-29 June 2014; Act as Course director; 21 days National training programme sponsored by ICAR on climate change and Climate variability ( 2011); Abiotic and heavy metal stress management (2016), Phyto-remediation and proximate sensing approaches (2019).Act as Zonal Secretary (E), ISPP,; Joint secretary, PHSF , Science, India, Councilor, Indian Society Agricultural Science , IARI
  • Publication: Published numbers of articles in peered reviewed national and international Journals, edited/ wrote books, chapters and reports/Manual. Served as editor, member of editorial board and reviewer for various National and international journals
  • Recognisation: Has distinction of Presenting key notes/invited lectures/guest lecturers; Charring session in various national/International forums; External reviewer for competitive research proposals for BARC, Mumbai. Jury Member, project evaluation committee of Numaligarh refinery, India.;Member of the selection committee for selecting best paper/judges of poster at various national and International forum and conferences As resource person in various trainings pertaining to climate change and sustainability in various institutes of India.;Representative member in technical committee of National Bamboo Mission India and bamboo nursery accreditation committee, State Bamboo Mission, Assam.; Awarded the prestigious distinguished scientist award of Society for Bioinformatics and Biological Sciences, Gangotri Nagar, UP.; Received best poster award in national and international conference.; Visiting fellow/scientist ,Rajiv Gandhi Central University, Arunachal Act as external examiner PhD and M.Sc viva voce/other examination in various institute.; Fellow of society for Environment and Development, New Delhi India; Fellow member of International Science Community Association
