Achievements
  • • Six promising carambola cultivars were evaluated through ICAR Ad-hoc research project entitled “Screening of carambola cultivar found in Assam and standardization of post harvest techniques for the best cultivar”(1993-2003) and packages for extension of shelf life of the fruit and preparation of value added products were standardized .
    • Received N.N.Mohan Memorial Best Research Paper Award for the research paper entitled “Effect of post-harvest treatments on the quality and shelf life of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) published in Indian Food Packer, July-August, 2007, offered by All India Food Processors Association, New Delhi 13.12.2008.
    • Actively involved in rendering extension services for the greater interest of the farming community. There was significant impact on adoption of technologies by the farmers in respect of improved varieties and crop management practices as a result of frontline extension approaches like skill training, on farm trials and demonstration programmes conducted in the farmer’s field.
    • Involved in horizontal spread of early Ahu rice var. Luit in Nalbari district and the technology “Diffusion of Early Ahu rice var. Luit in a social system” was recognized as one of the Best Technology of KVKs by ICAR in 2010.
    • Collaborated with AICRP on Tropical Fruits, AAU, Jorhat for technology development, through conducting on farm trial on high density planting in banana cv. Bor Jahaji and Jahaji. High density planting with a spacing of 1.2 m x 1.8 m in banana cv. Bor Jahaji and 1.0 m x 1.2 m x 2.0 m in Jahaji was recommended. The recommendation was incorporated in Package of Practices, Horticultural Crops of Assam 2011, published jointly by Department of Agriculture and AAU, Jorhat.
    • To fulfil the requirement of highly skilled persons in agriculture and allied fields, AAU has launched certificate courses in 2012. Acting as Nodal Officer of Certificate courses, a total of 25 nos. of certificate courses were successfully completed.
    • Actively involved in successful implementation of the AAU ambitious programme ‘Technology Showcasing’ which contributed in producing quality certified seeds of rice and toria in farmer’s field in a participatory mode in order to meet the shortage of certified seeds amongst the farmers and also showcasing of latest cost-effective production technology in Farmers’ Field
    • Actively involved in external fund mobilization through Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam, SIRD, NABARD, ICAR organizations, Govt. of India, NGOs etc. for capacity building programme and practical demonstration of translating the ‘know how’ into ‘do how’ carried out by KVKs.
    • Acted as Course Director in two Model Training Courses viz., “Integrated Farming System for Sustainable Agriculture” in 2018 and “Good agricultural Practices and Resource Use Efficiency for Doubling Farmer’s Income” in 2019 funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Govt. of India, at AAU, Jorhat
    • Acted as member of Selection Committee for the post of SMSs of KVKs on 09.07.2018.
    • Served as I/c Director of Extension Education, AAU in addition to own duties w.e.f. 30.06.2018 to 31.08.2018.
    • Chairman, Committee to scrutinize the applications for the post of Dean FA, DPGS, DSW, DEE, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVKs
    • Received Best Paper Award “Sipani Krishi Anusandhan Farm Award, 2019” for the best paper “Use of ethno medicinal plants in traditional medicine in Upper Assam, India published in Asian Agri History 23 (3): 2019
    • Involved in preparation of training modules for Certificate and Vocational courses.
    • Involved in preparation and compilation of Accreditation, University Ranking and QRT Reports in respect of extension activities of the University.
    • Preparation of rules and regulations of certificate courses.
    • Developed Information brochure on Certificate courses of AAU and Regional Agriculture Fair.
    • Served in various capacities in the workshop, conferences, seminars, exhibitions etc. organized by AAU.
    • Served as Chairman/Member Secretary/Member of the Committees constituted for conduct of written tests and also Selection Committee for various posts of KVKs.
    • Preparation of draft Package of Practices of Dragon fruit and passion fruit in 2020.
    • Convenor of Zonal Webinar on “Current issues of importance to agriculture and farming organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, AAU on 6/10/2020.
    • Team Coordinator for Research and Monitoring Committee and Advisory Committee to monitor the activity of the project AICRP (Vegetables), AICRP (Fruits), AICRP (Medicinal & Aromatic Plants).
    • Guided 9 (nine) numbers of post graduate students in the field of fruit science and post-harvest technology under Department of Horticulture, AAU, Jorhat and taught 9 numbers of courses of post graduate teaching programme at Department of Horticulture, AAU, Jorhat.

    • Involved in supervision and monitoring of the 6 Research Projects viz. NICRA, ARYA, National AYUSH Mission on Medicinal Plants, ICAR-IGFRI, ICAR-CIFT and APART.
    • Coordinated and monitored extension activities of 23 KVKs under AAU, Jorhat.
    • Involved in developing of Action Plan and implementation of strategies of KVKs to effectively serve the farming community.
    • Involved in KVK farm development particularly seed and planting material generation and establishment of demo units.
    • Involved in preparation and finalization of service regulations for KVK employees.
    • Member of Core Committee to conduct the Written Test for shortlisting of the candidates for the post of SMS under KVKs of AAU on 24/10/2022
    • Received best Poster Paper award for the research paper entitled “Effect of pre and post harvest treatments on post harvest quality enhancement of banana var. Grand Naine” authored by Swosti Debapriya Behera and M. Neog in the 2nd Indian Horticulture Summit 2022 organised by Society for Horticultural Research and Development, at NAU, Navasari on 27-29 April,2022.
    • Served as KVK Head for 4.5 years, Associate Director of Extension Education (T) for 11 years.
    • Participated in the International Study Tour to New Zealand w.e.f. 2/6/2023 to 12/6/2023, sponsored by ARIAS society under APART project, Govt. of Assam
    • Published 77 numbers of research papers, 7 book chapters and edited 10 books.
